Quick Reference to evangelism

Quick Reference to evangelism

W - "Would you consider yourself to be a good person?'

D - "Do you think you've kept the Ten Commandments?"

J - "Judgment - if God Judges you by that standard, will you be innocent or guitly?"

D - "Destiny - what's your destiny going to be... will you end up in heaven or hell?"

Three Responses

"I don't believe in hell."
Gently respond, "That doesn't matter. You still have to face God on Judgment Day whether you believe in it or not. If I step onto the freeway when a massive truck is heading for me and I say, 'I don't believe in trucks,' my lack of belief ins't going to change reality."

"Guilty, but going to heaven."
This is usually because he thinks that God is "good," and that He will overlook sin in his case. Point out that if a judge in a criminal case has a guilty murderer standing before him, the judge, if he is good man, can't just let him go. Then tenderly tell him he has already admitted to you that he has lied, stolen, and committed adultery in his heart, and that God gave him a conscience so that he would know right from wrong. His conscience and the conviction of the Holy Spirit will do the rest.

"Guilty, and going to hell."
Ask him if that concerns him. Speak to him about how much he values his eyes and how more therefore he should value his soul.

The Real Jesus
There is "another Jesus" that is not the Real Jesus of the Bible (2 Corinthians 11:4). Salvation can only take place through faith in the Real Jesus. Faith in "another Jesus" cannot save anyone. So how can you tell if you have the Real Jesus?

The Jesus of the Bible...

Effective Evangelism 15 things you need to know about Evangelism. By D. L. Moody

Effective Evangelism 15 things you need to know about Evangelism. By D. L. Moody

1.) Have for constant use a portable reference Bible, a Concordance, and a Topical Text-book.
2.) Always carry a Bible or Testament in your pocket, and do not be ashamed of people seeing you read it.
3.) Do not be afraid of marking it [that is the pocket Bible.] or making marginal notes. [Note Highlighters can be very good to highlight your Bible or underline it.] Mark texts that contain promises, exhortations, warnings to sinners and to Christians, gospel invitations to the unconverted, and so on.
4.) Set apart at least fifteen minutes a day for study and meditation. This little time will have great results and will never be regretted.
5.) Prepare your heart to know the way of the Lord and to do it. (Ezra 7:10.)
6.) Always ask God to open the eyes of your understanding thay you may see the truth, and expect that he will answer your prayer.
7.) Cast every burden of doubt upon the Lord. 'He will never suffer the righteous to be moved.' Do not be afraid to look for a reason for the hope that is in you.
8.) Believe in the Bible as God's revelation to you, and act accordingly. Do not reject any portion because it contians the supernatural or because you cannot understand it. Reverence all Scripture. Remember God's own estimate of it: Thou hast magnified Thy Word above all Thy Name.
9.) Learn at least one verse of the Scripture each day. Verses committed to memory will be wonderfully useful in your daily life and walk. Thy Word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against Thee (Psalm 119:11). Some Christians can qoute Shakespeare and Longfellow better than the Bible.
10.) If you are a preacher or a Sunday school teacher try at any cost to master your Bible. You ought to know it better than anyone in your congreation or class.
11.) Strive to be exact in quoting Scripture.
12.) Adopt some systematic plan of Bible study: either topical or by subjects, like "The Blood," "Prayer," "Hope," etc., or by books, or by some other plan.
13.) Study to know for what and to whom each book of the Bible is written. Combine the Old Testament with the New. Study Hebrews and Leviticus together, the Acts of the Apostles and the Epistles, the Prophets and the historical books of the Old Testament.
14.) Study how to use the Bible so as to 'walk with God' in closer communion, also so as to gain a working knowledge of Scripture for leading others to Christ. An old minister used to say that cries of neglected texts were always sounding in his ears, asking why he did not show how important they were.
15.) Do not be satisfied with simply reading a chapter daily. Study the meaning of at least one verse.

If My Words Abide in You - John Piper (Scripture Memory)

John 15:1-7 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

The Lost Doctrine - Paul Washer

Paul Washer preaching on regeneration, a doctrine that is so lost in the modern church. The sermon excerpt does not go into great detail with scripture. We would recommended anyone who has not read Justification and Regeneration by Charles Leiter to get a copy of it. It is a great blessing and was foreword by Paul Washer.

Who Made God?

Here is something that I hear all the time and I think it is nothing more than a stupid question.

QUESTIONS & OBJECTIONS

“Who made God?”

To one who examines the evidence, there can be no doubt that God exists. Every building has a builder. Everything made has a maker. The fact of the existence of the Creator is axiomatic (selfevident). That’s why the Bible says, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1). The professing atheist denies the common sense given to him by God, and defends his belief by thinking that the question “Who made God?” can’t be answered. This, he thinks, gives him license to deny the existence of God. The question of who made God can be answered by simply looking at space and asking, “Does space have an end?” Obviously, it doesn’t. If there is a brick wall with “The End” written on it, the question arises, “What is behind the brick wall?” Strain the mind though it may, we have to believe (have faith) that space has no beginning and no end. The same applies with God. He has no beginning and no end. He is eternal. The Bible also informs us that time is a dimension that God created, into which man was subjected. It even tells us that one day time will no longer exist. That will be called “eternity.” God Himself dwells outside of the dimension He created (2 Timothy 1:9, Titus 1:2). He dwells in eternity and is not subject to time. God spoke history before it came into being. He can move through time as a man flips through a history book. Because we live in the dimension of time, logic and reason demand that everything must have a beginning and an end. We can understand the concept of God’s eternal nature the same way we understand the concept of space having no beginning and end—by faith. We simply have to believe they are so, even though such thoughts put a strain on our distinctly insufficient cerebrum. (Take From the Evidence Bible.)

Marks of a Possible False Convert (Tony Miano)

Tony Miano, director of Living Waters/Way of the Master's Ambassador's Alliance, gave a sermon recently called "Marks of a Possible False Convert". In it, he identifies several marks that, if a person has, they could be a false convert. These marks include a "theology" called "Open Theism" (God doesn't know the future and learns like we do), another called "Sinless Perfectionism" (a belief that we can attain perfection in this life), and a denial of original sin among others. This is a hard hitting sermon, but it's spoken in love to those who are entangled by these heresies as well as others.

Here is the list from Tony's blog, http://thelawmanchronicles.blogspot.com , that lays out all the marks he wanted to cover in this sermon. Due to time restraints, he wasn't able to hit all these topics.

Ten Marks of a False Convert:

1. You believe that you are inherently a good person, thus denying the doctrine of Original Sin.

2. You commit idolatry of the mind and blaspheme the very character of God by denying essential doctrines such as judgment, hell, regeneration, and justification by faith alone; and you replace the truth with lies such as sinless perfection and open theism.

3. You think that only the red-lettered words in your Bible are the words of Jesus and, therefore, the rest of the Bible can be interpreted and applied to your liking.

4. You believe that a person can be a Christian while wantonly engaging in habitual sin; such as homosexuality, fornication, adultery in mind or body, the support in any way whatsoever of the murder of the unborn, or any other sin.

5. You believe that because a person has prayed a prayer and asked Jesus into their heart, then they are saved.

6. You believe a person can be a Christian, even if they bear no fruit after making a profession of faith in Christ. You treat the grace of God as a license to sin. You like the word backslider.

7. You struggle with the thought of missing a meal; but going days, weeks, even months without reading your Bible doesnt faze you.

8. You pray when you want something from God; but beyond that you have very little time for conversation with Him.

9. You believe that Darwinian, macro-evolution is a scientific fact and compatible with belief in the God of the Bible.

10. You see evangelism as a gift other people have; and you have no real concern about the fact that 150,000 people die every day, with the vast majority of them bound for hell. You soothe your conscience by convincing yourself that friendship evangelism, as it is most commonly practiced among American Christians, is actually in the Bible. You think that if you let your little light shine, you dont have to verbally proclaim the gospel.
