Jonathan Edwards

Sinners in the Hands
Jonathan Edwards is arguably one of America's great preachers. He said, "The gospel is to be preached as well as the Law, and the Law is to be preached only to make way for the gospel, and in order that it may be preached more effectually. The main work of ministers is to preach the gospel: 'Christ is the end of the law for righteousness.' So that a minister would miss it very much if he should insist so much on the terrors of the Law, as to forget his Lord, and neglect to preach the gospel; but yet the Law is very much to be insisted on, and the preaching of the gospel is like to be in vain without it."

The only way we can know
whether we are sinning
is by knowing His moral law.
Jonathan Edwards
1703-1758
Third President of Princeton

Jonathan Edwards, "Charity and its Fruit"
Holy and humble Christian love, is a principle
of wonderful power to give ineffable quietness
and tranquility to the soul. It banishes all
disturbance, and sweetly composes and brings
rest to the spirit, and makes all divinely calm
and sweet and happy. In that soul where divine
love reigns and is in lively exercise, nothing can
cause a storm, or even gather threatening clouds.

"The best, most beautiful, and most perfect way that we have of expressing a sweet concord of mind to each other is by music."
-Jonathan Edwards

"Above all else, guard your heart, for it
is the wellspring of life!" Proverbs 4:23
See that your chief study is about your heart:
that there, God's image is planted;
that there, His interests are advanced;
that there, the world and flesh are subdued;
that there, the love of every sin is cast out;
that there, the love of holiness grows.
"I, the Lord, search the heart and examine
the mind!" Jeremiah 17:10
